| Dedicated Hosting | When you rent somewhere for your websites to live, you are actually renting a small part of a computer. Web servers - the nerve centers of the internet, where sites are 'broadcast' from - are actually nothing more than a computer like the one you're using right now. One of the few differences is that a web server computer is connected permanently to the internet. When surfers look at a website stored on that server, they're actually accessing a file on that computer's hard drive. So renting webspace entitles you to a percentage of that computer's hard disk, memory, processor (brain power!) and everything else. I say a PART - because that's all you get. You have to share that server - computer - with everyone else that's renting a part of it. Dedicated hosting means that you get 100% of the server. In fact, the hosting company sets up a whole computer solely for your sites use. You get the whole 'box'. This means lots more storage space, 100% of the server's resources, more privileges to alter things on the server, and many other perks and improvements over shared / virtual hosting. There's a point where every adult webmaster should consider a dedicated server. |
| Dmoz | Dmoz can be found at http://www.dmoz.org/, and is a huge directory of websites. Dmoz is edited by real people, who work on a volunteer basis. These editors are made up from both surfers and webmasters. It's their job to decide which sites should be admitted, and which should not. There are strict rules to be followed, if your site is to be listed at Dmoz, and each site must have 20 free pictures, and minimal advertising. A listing at Dmoz will bring in traffic from Dmoz itself, and other websites that use the Dmoz listings. The adult section of Dmoz can be found at http://www.dmoz.org/adult/ and boasts over 140,000 adult sites. Dmoz is a major source of traffic for adult webmasters but has been subject to controversy over the years. |
| Domain Name | A domain name is website's unique address on the internet. It's the bit that appears after the www. One of the most famous adult domain names of all time is 'sex.com'. Once a domain like sex.com is bought, it remains with the owner until they let it 'expire'. Someone else can then come and buy it. There can never be 2 identical domain names on the web, so you can't go out today and buy 'sponsorslist.com' - because someone we already own it. You can buy a domain name from a 'domain registrar', which is basically just a shop on the web that specializes in their sale. They typically cost around $10 - $15 per year, depending on where you shop. |
| Downline | All of the people who have joined a sponsor through you. Your downline is comprised of all of your referrals and indirect referrals. All persons in your downline are linked directly to your account in some way. A downline of 1000+ users is common and can generate respectable revenue. |
